Pricing mechanisms are rarely disclosed, leaving an open question as to why visibility suddenly drops, only to be offered back for a fee. The rules by which a system decides whose signal gets through and whose gets lost in an endless feed remain a corporate secret. This is not just a technical decision protecting commercial interests; it is a structural pattern that shapes human behavior.
Paradoxically, closed systems attract more attention than they can retain, demanding constant energy to maintain. This phenomenon is well-studied and manifests through several independent effects.
In 1883, the Dutch cryptographer Auguste Kerckhoffs articulated a principle that became the foundation of modern security: a system must remain secure even if everything about it is known, except the key. Hiding the mechanisms (security through obscurity) does not add reliability; it merely creates an illusion that breaks irreparably at the first leak. True resilience is built on architecture, not secrecy.
When a system hides its rules, it triggers a mechanism described in the theory of psychological reactance (Brehm, 1966). When a person feels that information is concealed or their freedom of choice is implicitly restricted, natural resistance occurs. Mental resources are redirected toward bypassing these restrictions, figuring out the system's logic, or "hacking" the algorithm, rather than toward any useful action.
Add to this the Streisand effect (2003): any attempt to hide or remove information leads to its massive spread and heightened attention. A famous example: an attempt to suppress a photograph of a coastal residence caused its download count to jump from 6 to 420,000 in a single month. Closedness creates intrigue where none should exist.
When a person uses a closed tool to organize a meeting, a significant portion of their cognitive resource is spent interacting with the system itself. Imagine an evening: an app is opened and a sequence of profiles is shown. Background questions immediately arise: "Why exactly are these people being shown?", "Can those who are of interest see back?", "Is the algorithm limiting visibility to encourage buying a premium subscription?". A person begins to optimize their behavior for the machine. They rewrite their profile text not to express themselves better, but to please the algorithm. Level One: Development Rules. The documentation defining what we build and, crucially, what we fundamentally refuse to build is public — we describe it on the blog. For instance, we state explicitly that push notifications exist solely to inform about real-world events—a scheduled meeting or a cancellation—and can never be used as artificial stimuli to pull a user back to the app.
Level Two: Product Decisions. Every departure from industry-standard features is meticulously documented. We describe why there is no text chat before a meeting: because text creates a false sense of intimacy, draining energy before people even see each other. It is documented why the interaction loop closes unconditionally after a meeting. We explain why we use three axes of connection (a short video, structured answers, and a personal sayHello video message) instead of a single static profile. These are reasoned decisions, the logic of which anyone can trace.
Level Three: Marketing Strategy. We use no hidden funnels or manipulative tactics to capture attention. Our strategy of clearing the market of exhausting mechanics is described openly. The cycle where analyzing market patterns turns into new concepts, which are then published as articles and implemented into the product, is completely transparent. The content and the product share the same foundation.
Level Four: Pricing and Business Model. We refuse to monetize human attention. There is no paid visibility, no features to "boost" a profile for money, and the tool shows no ads. Even if, at this stage, the project is sustained entirely by the founder's energy and resources, we state this plainly and openly describe how we plan to build a sustainable financial model without exploiting people's time.
Level Five: The Boundaries of Openness. This architectural transparency has a clear and unyielding boundary: the tool is open, but the person using it is not.
Personal data, sayHello video greetings (which form the most intimate layer of connection between two people), choice history, and shared interests remain strictly protected. The openness of the approach does not cancel or diminish the privacy of personal space. Kerckhoffs's principle works at full capacity here: we show openly how the tool is built and by which rules it operates, but the key itself and everything inside belong exclusively to the owner.
The tool is transparent so that the human can remain opaque.
When a person does not know how a system evaluates them, they begin adapting their behavior to meet the expected demands of an invisible judge. This state of constant adjustment is exhausting. A transparent architecture, on the contrary, removes this pressure. The user knows exactly that the video portrait is shown without filters or ratings, and the voice sounds without distortion. No one is counting swipes to determine a market "value". One can afford the luxury of being genuine, unoptimized, and calm.
Openness removes the very necessity to blindly trust the system. When a product has no hidden algorithms and shadow manipulations of visibility, the need to spend internal energy deciphering its mechanics disappears. The tool turns into a quiet, predictable function. The human no longer fights the algorithm. Attention is completely freed. It remains undivided and focuses where it should—on the other person the user has agreed to meet.
