Public places only by default
The map shows only a filtered list of public spaces: cafés, restaurants, parks, museums, cinemas. We don't show: residential addresses, hotels, restricted-entry bars.
Product decision. First meetings are structurally risky. Public places reduce asymmetry of risk.
How search works
The map centers on the shared city. Pre-filtered categories. Specific places from Google Maps API with our filters layered on top. Each place has a name, address, photos, hours, and rating.
Why not «pick later, decide in chat»
Returns us to «let's send a ton of messages to settle». Picking a concrete place + time removes most friction.
If the other side can't make it — they propose an alternative, also concrete. One or two exchanges, done.
What about small towns
Big cities — many places. Small ones — fewer. An honest map of what exists.
Limiting can sound bad, but it simplifies — one is not paralyzed by choice.
Safety in choosing the place
Places shown with rating and review count. Don't show «private rooms», «couples spots». During the commute, live location can be shared with a trusted contact (outside mmeet).
